What Causes Diabetes?

In the olden days there was a belief that diabetes occurs only in people above 50 years. But nowadays, Diabetes occurs irrespective of age, even in children. A big chunk of the food we take consists of carbohydrates and sugar. Carbohydrate comes from Rice, Wheat and Tubers. When we eat carbohydrates, the enzyme helps in the conversation of carbohydrates into sugar. But this occurs only if the food is properly and slowly masticated in the mouth.

The food will be useful to the body only if the process of conversation of carbohydrates into sugar occurs in the mouth with the help of the enzyme. Most of us do not know about this. We think that the mouth is only a hole to swallow the food in. only if the food is properly masticated, the saliva will be mixed in the food in the required manner. When salt, chilies and tamarind are mixed in the food in excess; the enzyme will not be produced in the mouth.

The food that is too much hot or cold also hinders the production of the enzyme. When the food enters small intestine, the carbohydrates are converted into glucose with the help of the enzyme produced in the pancreas. When this glucose reaches the blood, liver changes it into glycogen. The glycogen will be used by the body, if required, then and there. The correct ratio of glucose in 100gm. Blood is from 80 milligram to 120 milligram. There may be variations in some people according to their body structure. For the proper functioning of our body, there should not be any abnormal increase of decrease of glucose. This glucose is controlled by the insulin that is produced by the PANCREAS.

There is a limit for the production of insulin by the pancreas. When we take carbohydrates and fats in excess of what is actually required, over the years, the pancreas gets tried easily. In such a situation, the presence of sugar in the blood increases and it will affect the important organs of our body. Hence, as a self adaptation method, the kidneys throws out sugar, water is required. Thus we feel thirsty and also tried. That is why diabetic patients urinate frequently and feel tired and thirsty.
