Taking Baby Steps to Get Back in Shape

Childbirth, long hours, and overall exhaustion keeps many women out of gyms and increases their chances of becoming victims to their couches or beds. When the realization hits that it’s time for them to get into shape, this proves to be a harder task than expected. If you’re just getting back into the full swing of a workout plan there is still hope for you.

The following tips are designed to help you understand what a giant feat you’ll be undertaking and how to tackle this problem so that you can begin working towards your former toned and fit body.

  • If it’s been a while since you’ve been inside a gym, start off slowly. Even if you were able to run full speed on the treadmill before the lapse in your workout, don’t stress your muscles out by trying to do too much.
  • The first piece of equipment you should begin on is the treadmill or the lifecycle for at least the 2 weeks of your workout. Doing so will wake up your muscles and prepare your body for a harder workout.
  • Once you find the speed on the treadmill that is at a pace you can keep up with without discomfort, stay at this pace for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, take a 5 minute break to stretch or have a little water before you go back again for another 20 minutes.
  • Don’t expect to become a workout guru after an hour of working out. Your body still adjusting itself and you will need to be patient in order to work your body up to a level where you are seeing even more results.
  • If possible, try to workout at least 4 to 5 days a week. This does not mean that you have to go to the gym every day. For instance, you could workout at the gym for 3 of those days, and spend the other 2 walking around your neighborhood.
  • Try to switch up your workout routine so that you aren’t working out the same body parts on a daily basis. If you work out your chest and arms on a Monday, do not exercise those muscles again for at least 48 hours. Allow them to grow and heal while you work on another body part.
