How to face the hot weather

We have several recommendations for people with a higher risk.

  1. Avoid, if possible, exposure to sunlight between the hours of 11 to 18;
  2. If you have air conditioning, adjust the device so that its temperature is 5 degrees lower than ambient temperature;
  3. Fans should not be used if air temperature exceeds 32 degrees Celsius;
  4. If you don’t have air conditioning in the home, at work, spend 2-3 hours daily in areas that benefit from air conditioning (cinemas, public spaces, shops);
  5. Drink daily 1.5 – 2 liters of fluid, without waiting for the sensation of thirst to appear. During periods of hot weather we recommend a glass of water consumption (or equivalent) every 15 to 20 minutes;
  6. Do not drink alcohol (including beer or wine), because it promotes dehydration and decreases the body’s ability to fight against the heat;
  7. Avoid drinks with high caffeine content (coffee, tea, colas) or sugar (carbonated soda) because they are diuretics;
  8. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables (melon, red plums, cucumbers, tomatoes) because they contain a large quantity of water;
  9. A dose of yogurt produces the same hydration as a glass of water;
  10. Avoid outdoor activities that require high energy (sports, gardening, etc.)
  11. Take care of children and elderly providing them regularly liquids, even if they don’t ask;
  12. Maintain permanent contact with your neighbors, relatives, acquaintances who are elderly or disabled.

Limited room temperature

  • Close the windows exposed to sun, draw the curtains or draperies;
  • Keep windows closed during the entire period as the outside temperature is higher;
  • Open windows late at night and early morning, causing air currents, for as long as the outside temperature is lower;
  • Turn off or decrease the intensity of artificial light;
  • Turn off any appliances you do not need.

Recommendations for your child

  • The child will be dressed casual, with comfortable clothes;
  • Children will receive mineral water or water with suitable organoleptic properties, very weak tea sweetened, fresh fruit;
  • Nursing mothers should be properly hydrate with water or water with suitable organoleptic properties, weak tea sweetened, fruit juices without addition of preservatives. Avoid drinking coffee or alcohol and make sure to maintain a rigorous hygiene;

Children in camps

  • Provide reasonable accommodation;
  • Ensure the proper hydration of children;
  • Children will be supervised and the playground will be located in the shade and the head protected with hats;
